Automail by mario-reg Automail by mario-reg
Finally! Inspired by :iconrockinrobin: and her automail, I decided to make my own. : D

It's made from craft foam, then painted with silver, and black paint. Nothing complicated. : )

What do you think? :)

Wow, that's amazing! I'm actually working on my own automail arm, and I was wondering if you'd email me some of your blueprints or notes? I've been whoring myself around Deviantart trying to contact someone who's successfully made their own arm all day. If you wanna make some lame 16-year-old girl love you forever, you can email me at (CailleanRoss@gmail.com) or (sparklyunicornvomit@gmail.com). :D

It looks great! :happybounce:
I made my own automail a few years ago, but I made it with an extra layer of plastic like stuff on top. I glued it on and than painted it. It worked fine for two conventions or so, but it breaks and lets go. I've made it two times now and it's a hell of a job that I don't want to do again this year.
So I was thinking about painting the craft foam. And I found you :D
Can you tell me if it sticks on alright? Or does it crack? And what did you use to paint it with?
I can imagine that the craft foam will such up the paint.
It would be great if you could help me out :D

Thank you! : )
Well, first of all, after I glued craft foam arm, I greased it with white glue mixed with water (In 1:1 proportion, I greased it with brush. About 5 layers. When first layer dried, I did next.) Thanks to water craft foam soaked with glue, and turned more shiny and a little harder. Also thanks to this paint won't soak in craft foam and it sticks great! Next I just painted it with paint in spray can. First I painted all arm with silver paint, then I took black, and sprayed over the hard side of sponge (for washing dishes xD) and wiped arm with it. It created something what looks like metal texture a little. : ) And that's all! ;)

That was fast :)
I'm going to try that! I still have all of the craft foam in the right form, measured and already cut out.
Maybe if I do my best I can get it done in a weekend. How long did the painting took you? It takes a while to dry of course. Thank you so much for replaying! :D
